Mitragyna javanica versus Mitragyna speciosa
It will be interesting to note that the sample of leaves of Mitrogyna
javanica obtained from Thailand contained the alkaloids of the
C(9) -H closed E ring normal-pseudo sequence and some alkaloids
in the C(9) -OCH 3 closed E ring normal-pseudo sequence. (Shellard,
Beckett, Tanti-vatana, Phillipson and Lee, 1967).
Mitrajavine was the dominant alkaloid but there was no evidence of the
isomer, isomitrajavine while only the A isomer of the corresponding
oxindole series was present. 3-isoajmalicine was present in larger
amounts than ajmalicine and thus it appears that the route of
biogenesis is through the C(3)-H? pathway. No pharmacological tests
have been undertaken on mitrajavine.
